Tweed Announces $12,400 for MétisFest
Brandon, Manitoba - May 14, 2012 - Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, today announced funding for MétisFest, which will be held July 27-29, 2012 at the Shamrock Centre in Killarney.
“This great event draws over 5,000 people and promotes the culture and heritage of the Metis,” said MP Tweed. “The organizers continue to grow this first class international event I encourage all to attend Métisfest and enjoy this great cultural event.”
Métisfest Inc. has received funding of $12,400 to help present this festival, which will take place from July 27-29, 2012 at the Shamrock Centre in Killarney.
“We are so grateful for the support from The Government of Canada – Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program. We appreciate that they believe in supporting International Métisfest and other festivals in Manitoba. The hard work that goes on behind the Rendezvous helps create an atmosphere that can be enjoyed by the thousands of guests that attend International Métisfest each year,” said Dan Goodon of the Metisfest organizing committee.
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
“International Métisfest has been developed to help promote and preserve the Métis culture, instill and restore pride to the Métis people and has become known as a pre-eminent Cultural Event where you are treated like family. We help provide establishing and emerging Métis artists an opportunity to showcase their talent and provide our guests an event to learn more about the Métis Heritage, Culture, and Place in North American History,” Added Goodon.
