Tweed announces funding for Turtle Mountain Metis Inc.
Brandon, Manitoba – May 22, 2012 – Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris today announced funding for Turtle Mountain Metis Inc to present their Turtle Mountain Metis Days at Lake Metigoshe.
“Our Government received a strong mandate from Canadians to invest in organizations that support local artists, like the Turtle Mountain Metis Inc,” said Tweed. “By supporting this organization, our Government is delivering on its commitment to strengthen our economy and support our arts, culture, and heritage.”
“On behalf of the Turtle Mountain Metis Local, I would like to thank the Federal Government, through Canadian Heritage for the grant that we received to help put on our annual Metis Days July 7 & 8 2012, “said Brandi Braun, Chair of Turtle Mountain Metis Inc. “It is very important to our community to showcase our people’s music and cultural talents throughout the weekend, and this support from the government will make it a lot easier.”
The Turtle Mountain Metis Inc. has received funding of $2,300 to help present its Turtle Mountain Metis Days which will take place from July 7- 8 at Lake Metigoshe.
The Government of Canada created the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program in September 2007. This program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and celebrations throughout Canada this year.
