Baldur Community Fitness Centre awarded funding to add shower facilities

(Brandon) December 4, 2009 – Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, on behalf of the Honourable Lynn Yelich, Minister for Western Economic Diversification, is pleased to announce support for the Baldur Community Fitness Centre.

Funding of $1200 was awarded under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program to add shower facilities to the Community Fitness Centre.

“I am delighted to announce the Government of Canada’s support for infrastructure in Baldur,” said Tweed. “This fitness facility will continue to benefit the health of the people of Baldur and area. I am pleased that the Government can supply this funding so that they will be able to finish the project much sooner”.

“The Baldur Community Fitness Centre would like to thank the Canadian Government and their RInC program for their contribution towards our renovation project,” noted Tracey Levreault, Chair and proponent of the Fitness Centre. “Our small community venture relies on many volunteer hours, and the generous donations from our local community members. With the contributions from this program we can see this project completed and benefitting this community hopefully by year end.”

The RInC Program, part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is investing $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
