Funding for Canada Games
Park
(Brandon)
December 7, 2009 – Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for
Brandon-Souris is pleased to announce support for a new baseball field
at Canada Games Park adjacent to Andrews Field.
Funding of $60,986 was
awarded under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program to
build the new baseball field in Brandon.
“I am happy to announce
the Government of Canada’s support for recreation in Brandon,” said
Tweed. “The new senior baseball diamond will be a welcome addition to
the Brandon Sports Community.”
“The funding support from Western Economic Diversification will
contribute to the establishment of a first class senior baseball diamond
for our Community,” said Rick Bailey Director of Community Services.
“The new baseball field will not only fulfill the needs of our local
baseball groups, but will also allow Brandon to showcase itself when
hosting large tournaments.”
The RInC Program, part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, is investing $500
million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period.
It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the
impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding
recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.
