Carberry receives $375,000 from RInC Program
OTTAWA
– June 8, 2009
- Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris was pleased by the funding
announcement of Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) for nine projects in Manitoba.
The Carberry Plains Community Centre, which is co-owned and operated by
the Town of Carberry
and the RM
of North Cypress, will receive $375,000
towards the replacement of the ice plant building and mechanical
equipment.
“Our Government is committed to helping communities like Carberry renew
their recreational infrastructure,” said Tweed. “Community rinks are a hub of activity during
the long, cold winters and are an important part of the culture in rural
Canada.”
“The Town and Municipality are very pleased with the support from the
Government,” said Carberry Mayor, Wayne Blair. “It’s a big
project, over a million dollars, and we are really happy to receive
funding.”
The
RInC program is part of Canada’s
Economic Action Plan that will invest $500 million in recreational
facilities across Canada
over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus
that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while
renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in
Canadian communities.
Tweed
noted, “It’s essential that communities keep their recreational
facilities up to date and efficient. RInC provides help with the funding
and makes projects more attainable in these tense economic times.”
