Tweed
says “Canadian pork is safe”
BRANDON
– May 4, 2009
- Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris, rose in the House of Commons to
reinforce the fact that Canadian pork is safe and the people of the
world need not fear contracting the N1H1 virus by eating pork.
The discovery of the virus on a farm in Alberta has led to many
questions regarding the safety of consuming pork.
“The answer is simple,” said Tweed. “Canadian pork is safe … this is not a food
safety issue. The H1N1 virus cannot be transmitted via cooked
pork.”
Irresponsible and misinformed statements by the Green Party of Canada
questioned the safety of Manitoba’s hog industry. “It’s
ludicrous to question the safety of pork when all the science says
otherwise,” said Tweed.
The Government is committed to ensure Canadians receive accurate and
regular updates on any concerns regarding the H1N1 virus.
