Assistance For Flood Affected Farm Families

BRANDON, July 8, 2010 – Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris is pleased with the announcement by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz that prairie farmers and producers will receive much needed financial assistance.

Recent flooding in Manitoba, and across the Prairie Provinces has been devastating to many farm families and producers, many of whom will not be able to harvest or even seed their land this year.

“This assistance builds on existing Agri programs which are the first line of defence for Canadian farmers,” said Tweed.  “This additional assistance will help hard hit producers from across Western Canada who have suffered losses due to excessive rainfall.” 

Through the Governments’ action, producers will receive $30 per acre in assistance to adopt measures to protect, rehabilitate and manage affected cropland.
