Flood Protection Funding
Improvements to highways 3 & 83
Brandon, August 27, 2010 – Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for
Brandon-Souris is pleased with the announcement that residents of the
Melita area will benefit from improved flood protection and safer
highways thanks to a joint investment by the Government of Canada and
the Province of Manitoba.
“Our Government continues to support projects that will enhance the
safety, security and quality of life of Canadians,” said Tweed.
“This announcement continues our commitment to providing greater safety
for residents, as well as significant economic benefits for Southwestern
Manitoba.”
As part of the $29.7 million in funding announced today, improvements
totaling $200,000 dollars will be made to highways 3 and 83 near Melita
to protect the community from flooding.
The Government of Canada works closely with the Government of Manitoba
to ensure infrastructure dollars are spend on priorities throughout the
province. Infrastructure Canada has now committed approximately
$10.2 billion dollars towards over 6,100 projects as part of Canada’s
Economic Action Plan.
