Governments of Canada
and Manitoba
approve funding for Medora water supply
BRANDON
- May 4, 2009 - Residents of Medora are excited about the
installation of a new source of water for their village. Merv
Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris and Manitoba
Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, Ron Lemieux, announced
that funding to the RM
of Brenda has been
approved for the new water line.
“The Government of Canada is committed to helping communities overcome
their infrastructure challenges,” said Tweed. “It is important that communities like Medora, who
have been on a boil-water order for years, have the opportunity to enjoy
what most of us take for granted.”
The governments of Canada
and Manitoba
will invest $1.6 million toward the $2.4 million project.
"I'm pleased to partner with both the federal and various municipal
governments on the Building Canada Fund which will provide economic
stimulus for our rural communities today and into the future," said
Minister Lemieux. "The approved projects will have long lasting economic
benefits for these communities."
This project is one of many projects across the province that will break
ground quickly thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment.
The governments of Canada and Manitoba
have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster
for targeted infrastructure projects in
Manitoba
communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
