Southwest Region Metis Federation
November 30, 2009 -
Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris is pleased
to announce that the Southwest Region Manitoba Metis Federation has
received funding in the amount of $10,728 to facilitate cultural
workshops between Metis seniors and youth.
“This funding will enable the cultural and
social ties to be passed to the next generation,” said Tweed.
“Seniors will volunteer and lead workshops that intend to strengthen the
bond between Elders and the youth.”
“We’re excited!” said Leah LaPlante, Vice
President of the Southwest Region Manitoba Metis Federation Inc.
“We always try to keep a cultural connection between our elders and our
youth. This will enable us to continue the relationship and will
definitely touch all the communities in our area.”
The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides
grants to support community based projects that encourage seniors to
contribute to their communities through active living.
“Our
government recognizes the crucial role our seniors play in healthy
communities. Seniors have the skills, experience and knowledge to
strengthen our relationships between generations,” Tweed concluded.
