Tweed Welcomes Prime Minister Stephen Harper
Brandon - March
22, 2010 –
Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, welcomed Prime
Minister Stephen Harper to Brandon.
The Prime Minister
was in Brandon to announce $5.31 Million Dollars in Federal Government
funding for the new Brandon University Healthy Living Centre project,
which will see a new recreational centre built on campus.
“We are very fortunate to have a Prime Minister who understands that
strong communities mean strong provinces and a strong country,” said
Tweed. “I was thrilled when I learned of Mr. Harper’s intention to
travel to Brandon to make this announcement personally.”
Funding will be provided under the Major Infrastructure Component of the
Building Canada Fund. These projects are selected through a
Federal-Provincial negotiation process. All projects are required
to meet specific Federal requirements.
“This announcement is confirmation of our Government’s commitment to the Brandon-Souris
constituency,” said Tweed. “This facility will benefit not only Brandon
but the entire Westman area for many years.”
