Tweed Praises Rail Crossing Safety Initiatives
BRANDON, April 20, 2010
– Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris is pleased to announce funding for
safety enhancements to 3 rail grade crossings in the Constituency of
Brandon-Souris.
Funding totalling $35,280 from Transport Canada will improve railway
crossings in three locations, in or near Firdale, Carberry and Virden.
“Our Government is committed to the safety of Canadians and reducing
incidents at rail crossings,” said Tweed. “We are investing in 155
high priority rail grade crossings across Canada, which is a commitment
under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.”
The improvements to rail crossings range in magnitude and complexity
from repairing electronics in existing systems to a full signal system
installation with flashing lights, bells and gates.
