Reston Rec Plex Receives Funding

Reston, January 28, 2010 – The Town of Reston is moving forward with renovations to the Reston Rec Plex, thanks to the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job-creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

Today, Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification; announced funding for the Reston Rec Plex that will create jobs in the Town of Reston.

"Our Government is committed to helping communities like Reston renew their recreational infrastructure," said Tweed. "This funding assists communities in keeping their facilities up to date and efficient."

Funding of $84,299 is provided through the RInC program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

The RInC grant proceeds are instrumental in allowing our community to complete its 5-year plan to rejuvenate our Rec Plex,” said Ross Tycoles, Reeve of the Rural Municipality of Pipestone. “The roof is the last phase of this project.  This is a multi-use facility used by all ages and is the focal point of our community.”

The Rural Municipality of Pipestone is upgrading the roof of the Reston Rec Plex. This will increase the lifespan of the Rec Plex and will ensure the community continues to have access to affordable recreation.

The RInC program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.  A total of almost $153 million in RInC funding will be invested across the four western provinces. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the program in the four western provinces.
