Tweed opens summer youth job centres

Brandon – May 23, 2008 - Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris, joined with the Province of Manitoba today to officially launch the Manitoba Service Canada Centres for Youth (SCCY).  Offices across the province are now open and ready to assist business and young workers with their summer employment needs.

“The Government of Canada is committed to helping young people acquire the skills and knowledge they need to improve their employment opportunities,” said Tweed.  “By working with local employers, we can make sure that young people get valuable summer work experience, and that our communities have a strong and vibrant work force for the future.”

SCCYs link young people with employers in 44 urban, rural and northern communities throughout Manitoba. The Centres provide young people with access to job postings, interview advice, assistance in resume writing and job-search strategies.  They also provide employers a location to post job openings.
