Governments of Canada
and Manitoba
approve funding for Virden recreation complex
BRANDON
- May 4, 2009 - Residents of Virden and area will benefit from
the construction of a new multi-use recreational facility supported by
the Building Canada Fund. The Federal and Provincial funding was
announced last week by Merv Tweed, MP for Brandon-Souris and Manitoba
Minister of Infrastructure and
Transportation, Ron Lemieux.
“Reliable infrastructure is essential for sustaining the quality of life
in our communities,” said Tweed.
“Modern and reliable infrastructure investments such as this can
attract business and create jobs for today and for years to come.”
The governments of Canada
and Manitoba
will invest $5.45 million in the $17 million project.
"I'm pleased to partner with both the federal and various municipal
governments on the Building Canada Fund which will provide economic
stimulus for our rural communities today and into the future," said
Minister Lemieux. "The approved projects will have long lasting economic
benefits for these communities."
This project is one of many projects across the province that will break
ground quickly thanks to a joint federal-provincial investment.
The governments of Canada and Manitoba
have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster
for targeted infrastructure projects in
Manitoba
communities in the 2009 and 2010 construction seasons.
