Virden Hosts Sod Turning for New Regional Multi-Purpose Recreation
Facility
Brandon, April 30, 2010
– Merv Tweed, Member of Parliament for Brandon-Souris, on behalf of the
Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic
Diversification, was pleased to participate in the official sod turning
ceremony to officially break ground on the Town of Virden’s new Regional
Multi-Purpose Recreational facility.
Funding has been provided by the Federal and Provincial Governments and
by a generous $1.5 million dollar gift from the Richardson Foundation.
The new facility will include a 1200 seat hockey arena, a 500 seat
banquet hall, a fitness facility, a walking track, a four sheet curling
club as well as administrative, retail and concession areas.
“Modern and reliable infrastructure investments, such as the Virden
multiplex recreational facility, create jobs and help ensure that
Manitoba communities continue to thrive,” said MP Tweed.
The
new facility will assist the community’s ability to host major events,
conferences and meetings while increasing tourism and economic
development in the area.
