Bill C-322 (formerly Bill C-458) -Library Materials

Petition in English                                             Pétition en Français

Introduction of Bill C-322- An Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation Act (Library Materials) - Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC) - Mr. Speaker, this amendment would do two things. It would preserve a reduced rate for postage on books between libraries, and would expand the library book rate program to include magazines, records, CDs, CD-ROMs, audio cassettes, video cassettes, DVDs, and other audio-visual materials. This is something that Canadian libraries and Canadians have been asking for since 1967.

I would like to thank Rhea Laube for her tremendous work on the bill on my behalf and on behalf of all Canadians. I look forward to the support of all members of Parliament on this very important amendment.

Petitioning the House of Commons
A Practical Guide

Drugs - November 2, 2007

Mr. Mervin Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of mainly residents from Brandon—Souris but also others from across Canada.

The petitioners ask that the House of Commons amend the law to authorize any pharmaceutical firm to produce generic versions of any drug patented in Canada for export to any eligible developing country listed in the law; to allow any pharmaceutical product to be eligible for compulsory licensing; to simplify the exportation of a drug to any eligible country in any quantity; to eliminate the expiry date on a compulsory licence; and to make it easier for developing countries to benefit from that program.

Farmers - May 29, 2007

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC):

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of some of my constituents. The petitioners urge the Minister of Agriculture to allow farmers to determine their future in regard to the Canadian Wheat Board.

Age of Consent - September 25, 2006

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC):

Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of over 300 people in my constituency praying that the government assembled in Parliament take all measures necessary to immediately raise the age of consent from 14 to 16 years of age.

Canada Post - September 27, 2005

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of the people of Lenore, Manitoba, dealing with the closure of rural post offices. The petitioners state that the government has put a moratorium on post office closures since 1994. They know that Canada Post has closed a significant number of rural post offices already.

Therefore, the petitioners of Lenore ask that the government keep the Lenore post office open and retain the moratorium on rural post office closures.

Marriage - June 1, 2005

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I am pleased to present a petition on behalf of my constituents, mostly from Virden and Oak Lake. The petitioners are requesting that the definition of marriage be a lifelong union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.

Marriage - April 18, 2005

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC): Mr. Speaker, I wish to present a petition on behalf of some of my constituents in Brandon--Souris asking Parliament to pass legislation to recognize the institution of marriage in federal law as being a lifelong union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.

Marriage - April 6, 2005

Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC): Madam Speaker, I am pleased to present two petitions from the constituents of Brandon—Souris. The petitioners request that Parliament define marriage in federal law as being the lifelong union of one man and one woman to the exclusion of all others.
