Keeping the Economy Moving

Dear Constituent,
As our Conservative government prepares for our 2010 budget to
be released next month, I thought I'd give you an update on what
we've done already to improve Canada's economy and what
direction we're headed.
Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, we've invested billions
of dollars in new community centres, roads, bridges, highways,
and other infrastructure all across our country.
We've improved Employment Insurance benefits for workers who've
lost their jobs in this recession and we're protecting jobs in
industries and communities that are hit hardest by the downturn.
I've included more information about these initiatives below if
you're interested.
I hope you'll never hesitate to get in touch with me at any time
to share your thoughts.
Best regards,
- Merv

Canada's Economic Action Plan:
|
|
Investing in Canada's Infrastructure:
As Canada's economy turns the corner, it is important that our
government stays the course on our Economic Action Plan. Sod is
being turned all over the country to build up the infrastructure
of tomorrow and to provide jobs for Canadians today.

Extended Employment Insurance Benefits:
Through Canada's Economic Action Plan, our Conservative
government is temporarily giving additional EI benefits to
unemployed long-tenured workers - workers who've been employed
for years without needing EI who are without work due to these
tough economic times.

Protecting Jobs through Work Sharing:
Because of the uncertainty facing many employers during the
economic slowdown, our Conservative government extended
Work-Sharing agreements to a maximum of 52 weeks. This gives
greater flexibility to employers and has protected countless
workers from layoffs.
