Conservatives Take Action on the Environment
|
May 2010

Dear Constituent,
Spring is in the air in Ottawa and it won't be long before we're
all surrounded by buds, birds and blooms again.
I thought this month would be appropriate to give you an update
on what our Conservative government has been doing for you to
preserve our environment.
We're implementing new regulations to ensure that the gas we use
in our cars contains more energy from renewable sources. In
total, our Conservative government is investing $190 million in
this year's budget towards supporting new environmental
programs and sustaining existing ones.
Lastly, some positive news - Canada's total greenhouse gas
emissions decreased in 2008, the latest year for which data
is available.
I hope you'll never hesitate to get in touch with me at any time
to share your thoughts.
Best regards,
- Merv

Tackling Environmental Issues
|
|
Environmental Highlights from this year's Budget:
Budget 2010 puts $190 million towards supporting new
environmental programs and sustaining existing ones. Our
Conservative government is supporting a cleaner, more
sustainable environment. We're working on helping Canada to
become the world's leading source of reliable and responsible
energy.

Canada's Total Greenhouse Gas Emissions Decreased in 2008:
Our Conservative government was proud to announce last month
that total greenhouse gas emissions decreased in 2008 over the
previous year. This is a positive step in our action against
climate change. There's still work to be done however, to meet
our goal of a 17% from 2005 levels by 2020 while still
maintaining our economic competitiveness and prosperity.

Greener Fuel for Our Cars:
By this coming September, our government will require that on
average, a minimum of 5% of the fuel content in Canadian
gasoline be renewable content - typically ethanol or other plant
derived sources. Using greener fuels will help Canadians reduce
their greenhouse gas emissions and will contribute to a cleaner
environment.
