Defending What's Ours

Dear Constituent,
I can't believe that summer is almost over! As we start shifting
gears into Autumn, I'd like to share with you some of what our
government has been doing in our North.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper and our Conservative government
are committed to protecting and asserting sovereignty over
our Arctic. We need to continue to exercise our sovereignty
while strengthening the safety and security of Arctic Canadians.
That's why we've recently announced new improvements to the
airport at Churchill - an important northern transportation
hub. We're also designating new wildlife areas to protect the
Beluga Whale and instituting a new High Arctic Research
Station so we can learn more about our Northern backyard.
I've included more information and some links below for you if
you're interested in learning more about these measures.
As always, please feel free to get in touch with me if you have
any questions or need to share your thoughts or concerns.
Sincerely yours,
- Merv

Canada's Northern Strategy
|
|
New High Arctic Research Station:
Canada is a Northern country and we need to be at the cutting
edge of Northern research. Our Conservative government is proud
to be instituting the Canadian High Arctic Research Station in
Cambridge Bay, Nunavut to create jobs, promote development, and
improve our understanding of Canada's Northern frontier.

Marine Protected Area to Conserve Beluga Whale Habitat:
By establishing the Tarium Niryutait Marine Protected Area,
we're ensuring the conservation of one of the most important
Beluga Whale habitats to protect these Arctic treasures for
generations to come.

Better Northern Transportation - Improving the Churchill
Airport:
Over a three-year period, our government is making improvements
to the Churchill airport in Northern Manitoba to ensure that
Northern Canadians have steady access to the goods, services and
opportunities they need.
